COBB Apparatus — Water Absorbency Test
Controlled measurement of absorbency on paper substrates
The COBB apparatus is designed to determine the surface water absorbency of cellulosic materials such as paper, solid board and corrugated board. It complies with ISO 535 and UNI EN 20535, ensuring comparable, certifiable results—essential for evaluating printability, adhesion and protection of paper and board.
Simple, precise operation
The device consists of a stainless-steel cylindrical chamber where the specimen is placed and locked with a clamping and sealing system. The standard-specified quantity of water is poured in; at the end of the test the liquid is removed and the specimen is weighed to assess the amount of water absorbed in grams per square metre.
Ideal for quality-control laboratories
Compact, durable and easy to clean, the COBB apparatus is indispensable in paper/board laboratories and for the quality control of paper-based materials. It can also be used in production environments thanks to its handling and robustness, and comes with excess-water removal devices and a stopwatch.
